"Everyone looks for a label. I would like to be known as a painter - one who painted what he saw while wandering around on his journey." Don Sahli

Don Sahli strives to continually expand his horizons and push the limits, presenting and creating his work in ways that are unexpected, fresh and stimulating. Instead of being limited by the technical bounds of painting and the expected response to subject matter, he takes these boundaries and uses them as the jumping off point - the start of something, not the end. And while Sahli's work can be seen as traditional with old world qualities that come from his background in the Russian School of Painting, it can also be seen as modern and contemporary - on the cutting edge in terms of color, design and passion.

Don Sahli made the decision to become a professional artist at a very early age. By the time he was 17 years old, art galleries in Texas and New Mexico were selling his paintings. Sahli has earned his living as a professional artist all his adult life. His work is presently represented in galleries in Vail, and Breckenridge, Colorado; along with Dallas and Midland, Texas. He is quite prolific, producing numerous studio pieces — including public works and corporate commissions — and innumerable sketches and plein air works each year.

This was written by our contact at the Villa, Brenda Wagner regarding travel arrangements: "I have been going to il Cassero in Lucignano, Tuscany for the past 14 yrs. and it has been my practice to to fly into Rome and then take the train from the Rome airport to nearby Arezzo until the past few times when I rented a car at the Rome airport and drove directly to Lucignano. I have chosen to fly into Rome because there are more direct and better priced flights JFK/Rome; however, there are two international airports in Tuscany, Peretola (Amerigo Vespucci), Florence and Galileo Galilei, Pisa. Many of the il Cassero guests have used both of these airports. To get to il Cassero, they take the bus from the airport to the city train station and take the train to nearby Arezzo where we make arrangements to pick them up at a discounted price. The other option is for us to arrange to pick them up at the airport for private transfer service to il Cassero, again at a discounted fee"..
