Watch this fascinating interview with Kim on:

Kim was born in 1957 in Omaha, Nebraska and raised in a rural community near Colorado Springs. After graduation from the Rocky Mountain School of Art he joined the faculty and later began teaching at the Art Students League of Denver and the Scottsdale Artists School. He has exhibited at the Allied Artists of America winning the Gold Medal of Honor; the National Academy of Design; the Artists of America-Denver Rotary Club; NAWA 21st Annual Exhibition; Arts for the Parks; the Colorado Governor's Invitational - Loveland Museum; the A.R. Mitchell Memorial Museum of Western Art; The Knickerbocker 42nd Annual Exhibition; the Oil Painters of America and won both the Certificate of Merit and the Joseph Hartly Memorial Award at two Salmagundi Club Exhibitions.

Kim's publications and articles include: Southwest Art Magazine "Charmed by the Commonplace"; American Artist Magazine "A Moment of Truth"; Artists Magazine "Keeping it Simple"; Art Talk - Focus; and the Review "An Instinctive Way to Paint". Kim receives his inspiration traveling throughout the world, capturing images of everyday life. His years of experience teaching anatomy at the Art Students League of Denver is apparent in the way he captures the figure so beautifully in so many of his paintings.

We will lodge at the Hotel Manet in the 13th arrondissement near the Place d'Italie. I've been bringing painting groups there for 10 years and have come to appreciate the fact that there has been virtually no turnover in staff in all that time. Rooms are comfortable, breakfasts are great and the Left Bank is a short 10 - 15 minute walk from the hotel.

There are several ways to get to our hotel from the airport. You can take a taxi, take the train from the airport or take a bus to one of the hubs in Paris and a taxi to the hotel from there. The taxi will cost you around 40 euros but once I know your arrival times I will put you in contact with others from our group so that cost can be shared. Being that we arrive on a Saturday, you will not have to deal with the rush hour traffic heading into the city -and the will save you time and money. The train is less than 10 euros and will take you to a station where you can exit and pick up a taxi for the hotel. The bus is a little more than the train and is probably easier to negotiate. It will take you to the Montparnasse station where you can take a taxi to the hotel. More on this later.

When you arrive at the hotel your room will probably not be ready yet. But we can meet there, leave our luggage in their storage area and explore the neighborhood until the rooms are ready.

Here is the Manet Hotel dining room. Notice the great reproduction of the Manet painting: Dejeuner sur l'herbe!

WORKSHOP COSTS AND SURCHARGES

* Single or Double Occupancy - $2950 for the first person! Second person stays free*!

* The second person pays a double room surcharge of $600.

To help you do the math: it costs $2950 for the first person and $600 (room supplement) for the second. Total is $3550 for two. If you divide the cost you are each paying only $1775 for the workshop!

Ready to register and guaranted your spot? Go to my secure registration page to submit a $300 deposit per person .
Includes: instruction, lodging, metro transportation, and all breakfasts.

I have reserved only 12 rooms at the Hotel Manet. This will limit the size of the class. If anyone wants to upgrade to a three star hotel there is a really nice one two blocks away. This will add at least $700 to the cost of the workshop.

We will paint in the beautiful parks of Paris - the Jardin du Luxembourg and the Tuileries. Both made famous in numerous Impressionist paintings. We will also paint alongside the very picturesque Seine River with views of Notre Dame Cathedral. We will take one day outside of Paris to visit Auvers-sur-Oise, the town where Van Gogh spent the last two months of his life.
