Talk about unique visions. Here are the paintings of fabrics, clothing and storefronts of Minneapolis artist Patricia Canney.

California artist Barbara Fracchia (who happens to be coming on the Bordeaux workshop with her husband) paints the still life, cityscapes, figures and her fast food series.

Rochester, NY artist Stu Chait paints beautiful, sensitive watercolor abstractions.

Miscellaneous

From time to time I get requests from artists/instructors to teach workshops for me. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't but all of the requests come from really good painters and teachers. About a month ago Robin C. from Austin, Texas told me about a painter she really admired. I looked him up, contacted him and scheduled a workshop for January 2010. His name is Timothy Horne, an exciting painter from Fairfax, CA. We're going to bring a group to San Miguel de Allende, a most charming and paintable town. I've organized countless workshops there over the years and always love going back. Here's a link to his page on my site and a link to his own site.

My friend Pat Pendleton, is looking for an artist in the Denver area who could illustrate a book. "I have a friend who has written a self help book which will have a thought per page with an illustration. The art will be a very important part of the book. I love what she has written so it would be a fun project for the right artist. It's a low budget project so he/she needs to find an emerging illustrator type artist as compared to an established one". If this appeals to yoy write to Pat at patpendleton@me.com

Here's Joan's tip for cleaning brushes: "I would rinse mine out with turpinoid and dry off well, then wash them with warm water and ivory soap...and they were still not clean. My solution is after doing the above, I rub some GOOP (available in automotive section of Walmart --its in a tub and its cheap) in the brushes, let it sit and then wash out again with ivory soap. GOOP by the way is glycerin based so doesn't harm the brushes...."

Gail's question: "When you enter a painting into a competition for a magazine article, can you submit a painting that you have sold?" This was answered by one of you who said "Yes, Gail. You can enter a sold work. An artist keeps his or her copyright on a painting unless she/he specifically signs it over. So even though a collector owns the piece, you still own the copyright (in America)."

Nancy sent me this great Youtube video about Edward Hopper narrated by Steve Martin and an interview with Eric Fischl talking about Hopper's influence on his own work.

Andrew Wyeth: "At moments of great enthusiasm it seems to me that no one in the world has ever made something this beautiful and important."
